The Reinsurance Under 40s Group, in partnership with TransRe and Baker McKenzie, would like to invite you to our Educational Event "Blockchain Explained”.
Our presenter, David Stewart, Vice President, Risk Management at TransRe, will answer your questions regarding blockchain technology and its implications for the re/insurance business. Dave will cover the potential disruptive nature of technology on the (re)insurance industry and introduce the concept of Blockchain at an introductory level. A brief history of Blockchain and its interrelationship with Bitcoin and Smart Contracts will also be discussed. The reasons for the (re)insurance industry’s strong interest and potential applications for this technology on a number of industries will also be described.
Lunch will be served beginning at 1:30pm and David will begin his presentation at 2pm. Please RSVP as soon as practicable as room capacity is limited to 20.

About David
David joined TransRe in 1997 as a special casualty (D&O, E&O, Medical Malpractice) treaty underwriter. In 2006 he joined the Global Risk Management Department primarily overseeing Extreme Events, Aggregation & Tolerance Management, and Emerging Risk. Prior to 1997, David spent seven years in the treaty underwriting casualty division of Munich American Reinsurance Corporation. His extensive re/insurance career has placed him in a variety of positions including underwriting, broker, business manager, and client auditor. David completed a BSc in Finance/Accounting and MBA program at the University of Florida and MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Boston University.
David has been an Assistant Adjunct Professor at The College of Insurance (now St. John’s University) where he has taught college level courses and preparation classes for the Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and other designations from the American Institute of CPCU for many years. And, he assisted in the design and has taught classes for PLUS University since its inception in 2007. David has also presented on behalf of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), the Brokers & Reinsurance Market Association (BRMA), the French Society of Actuaries in Reinsurance, HSBC Bank USA, Deloitte, and numerous other groups around the world. He is currently a member of the RPLU Continuing Professional Development Committee, the RAA Underwriting and Emerging Risk Committee and acted as editorial reviewer for the American Institute of CPCU/Insurance Institute of America publication, Reinsurance Principles and Practices. He has also authored a chapter (Liability Insurance and Reinsurance Underwriting Considerations) for the Insurance Information Institute appearing in Reinsurance: Fundamentals and New Challenges (2004).
